Entry Guidelines

How to Enter

Only on-line entry is available. Enter at www.hafspot.com. Click on the Pele

Award bar. The computer will make your logging numbers & logging sheet.  It’s fast & easy.

 Deadlines

You can enter on-line beginning on December 17, 2007.  To avoid a late fee, on-line entry must be completed and your work delivered to Electric Pencil by January 18th.  There will be a $10 per entry late fee for work submitted after January 18thNo late entries can be accepted after February 1, 2008..

Eligibility

All work entered in the ADDY® competition must have first appeared in the media between January 1 and December 31, 2007. With the exceptions of Public Service Advertising, Advertising for the Arts, and Advertising Industry Self Promotion categories, work entered must have been the result of paid creative services and media placement in the normal course of business (excluding student entries).

 Entry Fees

For members of the Hawaii Advertising Federation (HAF), Ad 2 Honolulu, AIGA, the Hawaii Association of  Broadcasters (HAB) or employees of member companies:

 Single Entry:  $65 per entry               Campaigns:  $80 per entry

 For non-members:

Single Entry:  $75 per entry               Campaigns:  $90 per entry

 Student Entry Fees (categories S01-S13)

Single Entry: $20 per entry                Campaigns:  $30 per entry

 MOUNTING REQUIREMENTS:

Print entries: DO NOT mount your print work this year for judging per National ADDY Guidelines unless otherwise noted by category.  Instead, physical entries must be placed inside an appropriately-sized manila-type envelope. 

Print out the entry form for each piece.  Cut out the 2 entry numbers from the bottom of the form. Glue or tape the top of the form and attach to the front of the envelope.  Attach one entry number to the back of the envelope in the lower right corner, and attach the second entry number to the back of the piece in the right corner. (the last page of multiple page entries)

 3-Dimensional Items:

Small items place in a manila-type envelope.  Cut out the 2 entry numbers from the bottom of the form. Spray mount the top of the form and attach to the front of the envelope.  Attach one entry number to the back of the envelope in the lower right corner, and attach the second entry number to the bottom of the piece.

 Large itemsenclose the item in an appropriated sized box.  Secure the entry number to the top of the box in the upper right hand corner. Spray mount the entry form and attach to the bottom of the box.

 Campaign entries – handle same as above based on size. 

Mark each piece 1 of 4, 2 of 4…

 Radio Entries – Audio CD’s are the only acceptable format. Write the entry number, client and title on the face of the CD with a permanent, CD safe pen.   Use a separate CD for each entry. For campaign entries, note the number of  spots in the campaign.  Put the CD in a manila envelope.  Glue or tape the entry form and attach to the front of the envelope.

 Television Entries – DVD’s are the only acceptable format. Be sure the DVD will play on a consumer DVD player.  Use a separate DVD for each single entry. Single spot DVD’s should be created to auto play. When a DVD contains multiple spots in a campaign, include a navigation tool.  Entries must be “viewing copy” with no color bars, tones or slates. Write the entry number, client and title on the face of the DVD with a permanent, DVD safe pen. Note the number of spots in the campaign. Put the DVD in a manila envelope.  Glue or tape the entry form and attach to the front of the envelope.

 Internet Entries – for all on-line entries,  submit the URL address.  In addition, submit a printed 8.5 x 11” color screen shot of the home page, pop-up banner, email, e-card, etc.  Put in a manila envelope.  Glue or tape the entry form and attach to the front of the envelope. No entries will be accepted for the Internet categories after January 18th.  The Internet categories will be judged prior to February 8th.

Non-traditional advertising is generally defined as an unconventional way of performing advertising or promotional activities.  Examples of non-traditional include long format videos,  window clings, street stickers, wild postings, telephone poles, cell phone advertising, tattoos.  Non-traditional entries must be accompanied by proof of usage. Printing excellence in Hawaii and is designed to

Encourage agencies and designers to “consider”

Hawaii printers first.  To compete in this category,

an entry must have been printed in Hawaii during

calendar year 2007 using a sheet fed press.

PLEASE NOTE ON YOUR ENVELOPE WHERE THE

PIECE WAS PRINTED FOR VERIFICATION.

 A special set of Mainland judges will determine which one

piece best exemplifies printing excellence and that one

piece will win the coveted NOVA Award trophy, a

check for $2,500 and the winning piece will be on

display at General Printing Company for one full year.
